New ARRL Six Meter Award ARRL to Offer
Award for 6 Meter Operations: Attention 6 meter operators -- there's a new award
to work toward! The ARRL Board of Directors approved a new award honoring the
late Fred Fish, W5FF, the only amateur who worked and confirmed all 488 grid
squares in the 48 contiguous United States on 6 meters. The Fred Fish Memorial
Award will be granted to any amateur who duplicates Fish's accomplishment. Fish
was a mainstay on the VHF+ bands for many years, having achieved Worked All
States (WAS) on 6 meters through 432 MHz, as well as DXCC for 6 meters. He is
widely regarded as a gentleman operator and one of the finest amateurs in the
VHF+ community. ARRL Contest Manager Sean Kutzko, KX9X, will oversee this award.
Kutzko, an avid VHF+ operator himself, said, "We hope the new award will
increase 6 meter activity throughout the US and the world. We also hope it will
lead to the activation of rare grid squares in the US by encouraging the native
ham population of a rare grid square to give 6 meters a try, as well as through
so-called 'Grid DXpeditions.' We actively call on the 6 meter community to help
educate VHF+ newcomers to the fun that is available on 6 meters." Complete
details on the Fred Fish Memorial Award will be available soon. The ARRL Letter,

Caribbean DXpedition 2008, Belize V3 & San Andres HK0 "Thank you" to those who shared your thoughts for a Caribbean DXpedition next year. I have decided to go to both V3 and HK0 San Andres between June 19 and July 6. I am returning to V3 because last year's trip was too late in the season to feed the European need. HK0 demand is high everywhere so that was easy to decide. This DXpedition will have one...and only one...focus - SIX METERS. Small rental cottages are already reserved on the eastern shore of both islands. The budget for this two-island trip is a bit staggering and beyond my pocket book, but I am going to "go for it" believing sufficient financial support will come. Mick McManus W1JJ will be the DXpedition Treasurer collecting support monies,. Mick will also be doing QSL Manager duty as well. Pat W5OZI has agreed to once again be my Pilot Station because Internet access will be limited...as best. The station at both locations will be a KW to 7 elements within 30 meters of the Caribbean shore. Website www.qth.com/k7bv/caribe2008 will appear in the next day or so and grow as more details are firmed up. And...as always...may the Es be with us! 73, Dennis Motschenbacher K7BV (UKSMG ann.)
Bahamas, C6AYM Look for Eric, K9GY to be active May 21-26th as C6AYM from New Providence Island [Nassau], Bahamas. QRV on 80-10m CW and 6m SSB/CW, including a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry in the CQ WPX CW Contest (May 24-25th). QSL via K9GY. (Andy 'NEON' Sargent N8OFS)

I will need lot of luck and lots of people staying up late, but hope to work a lot of you. Jimmy, W6JKV. WWL BP64.
